URBAN MINDFULNESS RETREAT
A DAY OF STILLNESS
STOP TALKING, START LISTENING!
“Sitting lets us just, first of all, recognize that we are this massive collection of thoughts and experiences and sensations that are moving at the speed of light and that we never get a chance to just be still and pause and look at them, just for what they are, and then slowly to sort out our own voice from all that is just trying to overwhelm us at any given moment.”
Angel Kyodo Williams, writer, activist and Zen priest
With the holidays and New Year behind you, this urban retreat invites you to dive into 2019 with a mindful pause just as your normal life gets back on track. An opportunity to check-in with your (whole) self: body, mind and emotions, and to open up to a part of yourself that lies under the surface.
Mindfulness invites us to stop, notice and be present with ourselves and our surroundings with non-judgmental and compassionate awareness. Let this retreat be an adventurous day of self-discovery.
What to expect
Kim will lead you through a day of mindfulness practices such as guided lying, sitting, and moving meditations. There will be short breaks in between each meditation and a lunch break in order to give participants ample time for rest and contemplation. Kim will also offer short teachings about mindfulness throughout the day.
Individuals with or without meditation experience are welcome. Kim will lead mostly in English with possibly some Dutch.

EIGHT-WEEK MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR) TRAINING
Who will benefit from the training?
The training is open to women and men. MBSR has been proven to benefit anyone who wants to improve their overall quality of life. However, it is especially useful for individuals who experience any signs or symptoms of stress such as:
During the training, you will learn practices that can be integrated into you everyday life which will help you recognize your physical limits, how stress manifests itself in your body, and the habitual mental and emotional patterns that cause stress and how to relate to them in a more supportive and skillful way.
Personal investment and commitment
The training consists of 8 morning sessions and a day of stillness. The course fee is €475 (including 21% VAT). You receive a 15% discount or pay €404 if you sign up before midnight on January 31, 2019.
You receive 26 hours of training, a workbook and recorded meditations in either English or Dutch. If you are not able to pay this fee due to financial circumstances, please send Kim an email about explaining your circumstances and why you wish to take this training.
The training is intensive and requires personal motivation as well as a substantial time commitment. In order for the training to have most effect, 45 minutes of daily practice is recommended.
If you are interested but need more information let me know via email and I will send you additional printed information.
What participants say about the training
“Right before the training, I started to have all the signs of a burn out. This training taught me how to recognize them and how to reduce my stress levels. It helped me go through a very difficult time. I discovered with mindfulness that I could handle pressure and difficulties without compromising my health. It helped me get on the path towards happiness. And Kim is great. She has the perfect aura to help someone in distress come back to their heart and to live with greater awareness.” Mael Gormand
The evidence: the effectiveness of mindfulness
The effects of mindfulness have been studied scientifically for the past 35 years. There are hundreds of published studies on the effects of mindfulness interventions especially MBSR and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). Research has shown that MBSR benefits individuals that experience high degrees of stress, psychological conditions such as anxiety, panic, fatigue, sleep disturbances and as prevention for individuals who seek to improve their general well-being and create more balance in their lives.
Studies show that mindfulness is proven to increase life quality and engenders positive changes in cognitive and neurobiological functioning. Moreover, mindfulness transforms the way people look at and consequently react to themselves and the people and circumstances in their lives. The broad effects of mindfulness make it of value to many.
While there are many other methods that can help with stress management and personal transformation, including time and priority management and personal coaching for example, mindfulness practices, in my view, serve as an excellent foundational basis for everything else.
